Today I’m kicking off a new monthly feature here on the blog; My Beauty Favourites. As beauty director I get to test and review so many beauty products, and I constantly discover new favourites for my own beauty kit that I would love to share with you.
During Winter the skin needs extra care. As the temperature drops so does the moisture in the skin, and the combination of the cold weather, dry air and indoor heating will leave many of us with a dry skin, a rash or even breakouts. The key to a beautiful skin is moisture. Lots of it – both from the inside and outside.
A face cream is not enough but you’ll come a long way, and at the moment I use Formula C Repair Face Cream by Amazing Space. The first thing you notice when opening the jar is the subtle and very lovely smell of oranges. I’m super sensitive to smells, and it really has to be subtle to work for me. The texture of the cream is velvety and it melts into the skin while boosting the moisture level of the skin. Vitamin C is important for tissue repair and regeneration, it minimises fine lines and evens out your skin tone making this the perfect cream for Winter. I currently use it every morning over my serum and toner (sometimes also in the evening before I go to bed) and it keeps my skin hydrated all day long. It instantly refines the skin surface, and works a the perfect base for your foundation whether its a fluid or a powder foundation.
A great blush will transform your skin from dull to glowing in an instant. Marc Jacobs just launched Air Blush – a super lightweight blush that melds with your complexion and gives you that coveted sexy, natural glow. I always find that powders have more staying power, and this one really stays in place all day (and would probably stay on all night too). Marc Jacobs wanted to create a blush that would give you a dance-floor flush in a stroke, and with 5 colours to choose from (which btw have the cutest names such as Lines & Last Night, Night Fever & Hot Stuff and my favourite Kink & Kisses) there’s a colour for everyone. Raspberry tones works best on me, and the Kink & Kisses has a nice balance of a soft peachy rose and pink. It’s super easy to apply with an angled blush brush (I love to work with Marc Jacobs’ brushes), and I apply it by blending both shades together and then swirl it on my apples of the cheeks to create some volume in my face that is quite refined already.
I’ve been wearing the same foundation for ages, and even though it hasn’t been perfect I’ve sticked to it as I simply didn’t know whatelse foundation to try. The moment I started working as beauty director at Costume I made it my mission to find the perfect foundation, and Estée Lauders new Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick is currently among my favourites. My biggest skin concern is the pigmentation spots I’ve got at my forehead, and the fact that my skin has a tendency to shine throughout the day. The perfect foundation will cover my flaws but look natural on my skin. It will stay in place the whole day and it will make my skin glow but not shiny. Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick by Estée Lauder evens out the skin, and leaves it with a radiant glow. The sponge tip makes it super easy to apply and to blend into the skin, and if you think the coverage is too sheer, the foundation is buildable. I apply two layers at my forehead and chin, and a single layer at the rest of the face. Though it doesn’t keep my skin shine-free all day I love it as an everyday foundation as it really makes my skin radiant – and it’s great for touch-ups during the day as well.
I love to pamper my skin with masks and exfoliators, but it was not until recently that I made it a part of my beauty routine. Grown Alchemist makes some amazing products, and just launched a new granule-free exfoliant, and it’s oh-so-good! Enzyme Exfoliant Papain & Amino Complex is formulated to even skin tone and reduce lines, and it leaves you with a soft and luminous skin in only 5-10 minutes. I love the smooth texture and how it feels like it calms the skin the moment you apply it (this could have something to do with Quandong that is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits). Overall a super effective enzyme exfoliator yet mild enough to be used around your eyes too.
Maybe (or maybe not) you’re already dry brushing your body every morning and know of all the benefits of dry brushing. Now it’s time to start brushing your face, and once you’ve tried it, it makes perfectly sense. I’ve tried a few dry brushes for the face already (I love the one by Aveda as well) and am currently sweeping my face with the Renew Face Brush by Karmameju. The bristles are a lot softer than the bristles on a body brush (thank god) but they’re both on a mission to sweep away dull cells and make your skin glow. It stimulates circulation, boosts cell renewal and eliminates toxins, and if used daily you’ll notice that eyebags and dark circles will be less visible, and that’s really my number one reason for using it.
